I’m afraid “The Conjuring” looks like another job for the Exorcist.
When will Realtors finally take haunted houses off the market? It’s not long after Lili Taylor, her obliging g husband and their five kids move into a demon dominated home in the suburbs. When strange things start happening and evil spirits come out the woodwork, it’s time for Clairvoyant Vera Farmiga to start asking questions.
Ghostly shenanigans in this crazy house are treated to a first rate production, and the acting’s also pretty good.
So what’s wrong with “The Conjuring”? Nothing except the overly familiar, repetitious plot. We’ve seen all the demonic hogwash too many times before and there’s no good reason to see it again.
Lili Taylor made her mark as the darling of the Sundance Film Festival’s quality cinema, and here she’s slumming. As Lili approaches the demon Infested cellar, she’s probably wondering if it’s worth it, compromising her standards just for a bigger paycheck?
So much talent wasted in front of and behind the camera. All in the service of warmed over foolishness involving demonic possession. And it’s not even very scary.
“The Conjuring” went looking for evil spirits and instead wound up with only two stars.
“The Conjuring” could have used a few more creaking doors
