You don’t have to look twice to know that “White House Down” is “Die Hard” all over again.
And that’s not a bad thing. Mercenaries invade the White House at exactly the same time hero Channing Tatum is taking a tour of the building.
Director Roland Emmerich’s sense of humor gives “White House Down” its entertaining edge.
Tatum teams up with the President, Jamie Foxx, to make a formidable fighting force.
I’ll bet you never dreamed you’d see the Presidential limo under siege during a high speed chase across the White House lawn.
“White House Down” is just filled with outrageously inventive touches. None more amusing than President Jamie Foxx doing back up for Tatum, his would-be Secret Service protector.
What more obvious homage to Bruce Willis in “Die Hard” than Tatum dodging bullets on the White House roof?
“White House Down” is so stylishly thrilling, you’ll easily forgive the implausible plotline just for the fun of it.
Apart from Tatum’s typically bland acting, the top notch cast including James Woods and Richard Jenkins, really get into their roles. Especially Jamie Foxx.
“White House Down” is right up there with the best of the summer action adventures. The picture’s so entertaining, I’d risk a presidential rebuke for anything less than 4 stars.
Just don’t take it too seriously and you will have a marvelous time.
