“The Man with the Iron Fists”November 10th, 2012 at 11:25 am by Sy Becker under A Look at the Movies
1 hour 45 minutes
Starring: Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu
Serious moviegoers would love to know what an actor of Russell Crowe’s caliber is doing starring in “The Man with the Iron Fists”. He’s obviously slumming, that’s for sure, playing an over the top character called Jack Knife, in this bloodthirsty martial arts epic. Right from the start you sense that Crowe’s having second thoughts about this acting endeavor.
It becomes more apparent with each burst of testosterone that “The Man With The Iron Fists” was made mostly for smirks, if not outright giggles, which never really explains what Russell Crowe’s doing there. And it’s equally baffling why an actor of Lucy Liu’s stature would accept the campy role of the combative Madame Blossom. Believe me, “The Man With the Iron Fists” is no step up in her movie career.
Thought I have to admit it’s sometimes funny in a ludicrous way watching the martial arts mockery, but after awhile even that becomes tiresome. I know reviewers aren’t supposed to doze off during a movie, but I just couldn’t help myself. It was tough keeping my eyes open during this drivel.
A movie that’s worth two yawns and one star.
“The Man with the Iron Fists” is a knuckleheaded bore.
