Oscar has always shown a soft spot for a Lush. The Motion Picture Academy can’t ignore Denzel Washington’s high flying performance as an Alcoholic Airline Pilot in “Flight”.

This is the gripping study of a man living in serious denial. He might have gotten by fooling himself and everyone else; except for the time he brilliantly averted a major disaster and landed a crippled Jetliner in a monumental example of skill and courage.

But the last thing he needed was to call attention to was himself. With Robert Zemeckis at the controls, the esteemed Director orchestrated this deeply moving drama with many layers of human reaction.

“Flight” is one of the year’s finest films, powered by Washington’s inspired performance of a man who’s no longer able to hide his flaws from himself and from others. And it comes at a price he’s not quite willing to confront.

Denzel Washington gives nothing less than a courageous, soul searching performance, and you can feel him wrestling with himself. Truly superb acting that propels “Flight” to reach the heights with 4 stars.

So fasten your seatbelts, you’re in for quite an emotional ride.
