“Young Adult”
Charlize Theron
Patrick Wilson
Elizabeth Reaser
Anyone whose ever felt inferior to the high school beauty queen will get a measure of revenge out of Young Adult. Charlize Theron gives such a darn good performance. She’s everything her jealous classmates might have hoped she’d turn out to be: dysfunctional, depressed and disappointed. She regrets never having married the love of her life and thinks she can make up for lost time. Even though he’s now married and has a child.
The biting humor from trying to win back her high school sweetheart Patrick Wilson makes you just feel uncomfortable as the character who find her behavior simply outrageous and bordering on insanity. Theron does some masterful acting as the deeply troubled Young Adult who never grew up. She just can’t face reality.
Young Adult packs a tremendous amount of dramatic insight for a film running only an hour and a half. Will she come to her senses and realize the futility of what a terrible mess she’s made of her life, trying to re-capture what once was?
If you love being stirred up emotionally, you’re meant to see Young Adult. Charlize Theron attaches herself to your heartstrings and show your appreciation with 3 stars. Like me, you’ll rave about Young Adult.
